Description

Probably Alexander Ramsay, 1812. Tudor Gothic. Combined
stables, coachhouse and steading, square plan with
semi-circular bull pen to west. Squared whinstone with ashlar
dressings. Main south elevation: 5 bays, central and outer
advanced, the former with 4-centred arched pend and hoodmould
but parapet and sculpted centrepiece now misssing. Mullion
and transomed windows to inner bays with margined glazing,
outer bays 2 storeys with attached
clustered shafts at angles and set-off between storeys. All
windows with hoodmoulds. Pierced crenellated parapet.
Interior of court: 2 storey range at north with central Tudor
detailed door leading to domestic quarters, 2 basket arched
doors flank it closely. At 1st floor 2 small Gothic windows,
piended roof. Flanks with various coach, stable and byre
entrances and windows similarly arched (1 door enlarged)
lofts above with square opening moulded frames (some
blocked). Circular turret attached at north east angle,
possibly a dove-cot.
