Statement of Interest

In 1792-3 the school was in a poor state of repair but it was

surmised that there would be 'little doubt of it being

rebuilt on a plan equally comfortable and convenient for

master and scholars' after the building of the church (1795).

The school is close to the site of the medieval 'bede house'

which in 1842 had been recently repaired and had 2 residents.

Unusual survival of early rural school.
