Description

1830-40, possibly John Urquhart, architect and builder,
Forres; later additions. 2-storey house over basement,
regular 3-bay frontage. Whitewashed rubble, contrasting
ashlar margins and dressings. Recessed centre bay in N front
delineated by giant ashlar pilasters and shallow pedimented
blocking course at wallhead with centre corniced doorway
approached by flight of steps, single window above. Flanking
raised ground floor rectangular projecting windows with
corniced wallhead.
Substantial 2-storey rear wing with enlarged E window; wing
linked to early 20th century single storey over raised
basement cottage at rear.
Varied glazing. Ridge and wallhead coped stacks; piended
slate roofs.
INTERIOR: little of interest survives.

Unusual frontage to house.

Site slopes steeply to N. Walled garden fronting house with

small octagonal garden house which not included in listing.

Cottage to rear of Burgie Lodge does not appear on 1905 2nd

ed OS.
