Description

Several building dates, mostly 17th and 18th centuries.
2-storey former laird's house with long, plain north front,
12-pane sashes in irregular bays, panelled inner door in
early 19th century doorcase. Harled with red ashlar margins;
sunk basement; some roll-moulded openings at east. 19th
century wing with former coach house built of white granite
rubble extends south from east end of house. Lower, gabled
outbuilding adjoins either main gable, that to east
incorporated in garden wall, that to west with ball finial,
and now used as garage. Piended square inner stair turret to
south, main roof swept over passage alongside. Corniced end
and axial stacks; roofed with graded slates.
Interior with some fine late 17th/early 18th century timber
panelling, raised and fielded panels, Classical entablitures
and pilasters.

Statement of Interest

Principal Home of Stewart family until Shambellie was built

in 1856; still (1984) in the family's ownership.
