Description

Dated 1884 in panel. 2-storey house, 1st floor breaking
eaves, of 3 uneven bays. Red sandstone rubble, snecked and
coursed; vertically droved ashlar dressings. Slate roof with
fish-scale pattern roof to bracketted porch and linked
bipartite at right. Chamfered angles to projecting ground
floor windows; mullioned 4-light NW corner bay and SW angle,
with moulded and mitred stops. Sash windows; small-pane upper
sash, 2-pane lower.
Tripartite doorway, leaded flanking lights and plate glass
fanlight. String course on gable end. Segmental pediment to
dormer with finial and carved detail below cill. Small gabled
dormer. Trussed barge board gable.
Adjoins No. 11 by flat-roofed window bay, probably in later
addition. Addition to rear 1902, George Cunningham Jnr.

Statement of Interest

The villas were probably commissioned by J H Bowe, who

resided in No 1. Probably related to D L Bowe of The Priory

Commission.
