Lodge built 1884-5. Park opened 26.5.1885. Picturesque,
single storey and attic L-plan lodge. Stuggeed ashlar with
polished dressings; Entrance in re-entrant angle with ogee
arcaded verandah under swept roof. Gable ends with projecting
ground floor windows with applied timber framing and
decorative plaster panel to jettied attic. Substantial
corniced stack over east gable. Projecting eaves, and red
tile roof; decorative ridge tiles. 3 square gatepiers
(originally 4) have shaped caps and ball finials, cast-iron
gates.
Levengrove park presented to the town by Peter Denny and John
MacMil<> shipbuilders.
The grounds were mostly those of former mansion house of
Levengrove which was demolished circa 1880.
Mr MacLennan of Glasgow parks made a report on the grounds,
and it <> have been his plan which was used for the lay-out.
Park is mosly enclosed by low, ashlar-coped rubble wall with
railings removed; some iron gates and gatepiers remain.
Within the park is a fountain the base of a former bandstand,
a flag pole (erected 19<> to commemorate the coronation of
King George V), the ruin of Cardross Old Church and war
memorial (the latter is described separately).
