Description

Presumably by Walter Newall. Circa 1820 with heavy
finialed urns (?added circa 1907). Gatepiers, carriage
gate between piers flanked by concave tall quadrants
linking outer piers, fifth pier at W beyond pedestrian
gate. Polished red ashlar. Piers all octagonal, with
corniced caps, urns over 2 inner piers. Good decorative
cast-iron gates backed by steel plates.

Statement of Interest

Built as gate to Laurel Mount, now Mount St Michael's.

Similar urns to piers at Beattock Inn thought to have been

added circa 1907.
