Presumably by Walter Newall. Early 19th century. Single storey piend-roofed lodge. Originally L-plan, N range doubled
(sympathetically) in thickness with additional roof-pitch,
perhaps mid 19th century. All painted ashlar, flanks and
rear (N) elevation droved.
S elevation: advanced and shallow-bowed wide left bay has
panelled plain angle pilasters and 2 windows with string at
cill level; full-height square porch in re-entrant angle;
sash windows with original glazing pattern retained; narrow
eaves band and main cornice carried over all elevations.
Corniced, squat diamond stacks; roofed with graded slates;
Lean-to sheds abut N wall. 2 square rusticated and painted
ashlar gatepiers with shallow pyramidal caps. Rebuilt curved
low rubble-built quadrants incorporate base of 3rd pier at N.
Built as lodge to Broomlands House, by Walter Newall (see
Newall acquisition, Dumfries Museum.)
