Description

Early 19th century. 2-storey and basement 5-bay symmetrical villa with classical details. Cream sandstone,stugged ashlar front with polished dressings, coursed and squared rubble to NE elevation; coursed rubble to rear and side. Rock-faced basement; ashlar base course; cill band course to 1st floor windows; dentilled eaves cornice; rusticated quoins; architraved windows (corniced at ground floor).

NW (FRONT) ELEVATION: Roman Doric pilastered and corniced doorway to centre accessed by steps with balustrade, 2-leaf panelled door and semi-circular fanlight with radial astragals. Regular fenestration.

3 velux rooflights.

NE (LAURIE STREET) ELEVATION: 3-bay; gabled with ashlar apex stack; band course above 1st floor; single windows per bay (to centre and right blinded).

SE (REAR) ELEVATION: nepus gable at centre (later alteration); rectangular dormer to right.

SW ELEVATION: gabled with ashlar apex stack; window to left.

12-pane timber sash and case windows. Slate roof with lead flashings; 2 corniced apex stacks (see above). Coped skews.

INTERIOR: not seen 1993.

Tall rubble boundary wall to Laurie Street with red sandstone gatepiers.

Statement of Interest

The adjacent single storey later 19th century office and warehouse wings to SW and rear have been much altered.
