Description

1829. 2 storey, 4 bay, symmetrical pair of classical houses. Polished cream sandtone ashlar; rubble to sides and rear. Base course; advanced cills; eaves course; cornice; blocking course raised above advanced central bays.

E (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: doorways to central bays; panelled doors; plate glass fanlight to No 80, multi paned to No 78; single windows to 1st floor above. Single windows to both floors in bays to outer left and right.

4 pane, 12 pane and plate glass timber sash and case windows. Grey slate piended roof; rendered wallhead stack to S.

INTERIOR: not seen 1996.

BOUNDARY WALLS AND GATEPIERS: low coursed boundary wall to street; replacement railings; stone piers with pyramidal cap between houses and to S.

Statement of Interest

Originally part of Craigie Terrace begun by Robert Mason, who also built Arthur Lodge before going bankrupt in 1830; No 78 still bears the place name.
