Description

Circa 1840. Classical 2-storey with basement, 3-bay classical house forming terrace end. Yellow ashlar sandstone; painted basement; random rubble side and rear elevations. Double-pile, rectangular-plan set back from street with garden and parking area to front. Continuous base, string and blocking courses; projecting cornice.

S (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: railed steps to ground floor entrance in bay to right; pilastered and corniced doorpiece; replacement timber door; opaque glass fanlight. Single windows to ground in remaining bays to left; regular fenestration to basement and 1st floor. Shallow window guards to 1st floor windows in bays at centre and outer left.

N (REAR) ELEVATION: regular fenestration to all floors.

8-pane timber sash and case windows to S elevation; 12-pane timber sash and case windows to N. Grey slate M-gabled roof indicates double-pile plan. Ashlar apex stacks to W with projecting cornices and circular cans.

INTERIOR: not seen 1996.

BOUNDARY WALL: low random rubble coped wall to Ferry Road demolished in part for vehicular access; replacement iron railings. Coped rubble wall along W boundary.

Statement of Interest

B group with Nos 142A, 144, 146 and 148 Ferry Road. Completing the bowed terrace from Summerside Place and relatively unchanged, No 150 plays a key architectural role.
