Description

John Watherston and Sons, dated 1881; alterations at ground. 4-storey classical offices with shops at ground, on corner site. Polished cream ashlar sandstone. Cornices to ground and 1st floor (as cill course to 2nd floor); overhanging eaves cornice; architraved windows, moulded to front, with aprons at 1st floor.

HANOVER STREET ELEVATION: 4-bay, advanced from building line. 2-bay shopfront at ground with blocked Ionic pilasters supporting scrolled pediments; right bay incorporates elaborate broken pedimented doorpiece (to upper floors), modern plate glass windows. Windows corniced to 1st and 2nd floors; fluted friezes at 1st floor.

ROSE STREET ELEVATION: 6-bay. 3 left and right bays slightly advanced. Broad right bay with shop as above (with paired columns) at ground, elaborate aedicules to 1st and 2nd floor; date panel 1881 to 3rd floor. Pedimented wallhead dormer to left, panelled wallhead stack to right.

Timber sash and case windows; plate glass to front, 4-pane to right. Piended slate roof; corniced ashlar stacks (rendered to S); grey slates.

INTERIOR: not seen 1995.
