Early 18th century, incorporating earlier fabric. 6-storey and attic 5-bay tenement with shop to ground floor. Random rubble with ashlar dressings. Cavetto eaves course. 4-window dormer to attic. Pend to right (Jackson's Close); modern access balconies and part of circular stair to rear. Lower narrow block running N bounded by Jackson's Close and Lyon's Close adjoins No 48 Cockburn Street (separately listed).

Tall tenement facing the High Street, with wing running N, built on the old burgage plot, truncated by the building of Cockburn Street in 1854-60.
