William Hogg, 1883. 5-storey, 4-bay terraced tenement, on corner site. Broached ashlar sandstone; V-jointed rustication at ground, to principal elevation, polished ashlar at ground to N elevation. base course; band course between ground and 1st floor; projecting cills to 1st and 2nd floor windows; band course between 2nd and 3rd floors; cornice at 3rd floor; cornice and blocking course at 4th floor.
W (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: 6-panel timber door with plate glass rectangular fanlight, to right of centre at ground; regular fenestration to remaining bays at ground, and to floors above.
N (NOS 41 AND 43) ELEVATION: 6-bay elevation, comprising 6-panel timber doors with plate glass rectangular fanlights, in penultimate bay from left at ground, and between penultimate bay from right and 3rd bay from right, at ground; regular fenestration in remaining bays, and to floors above, with blind windows in penultimate bay from right, to all floors.
S ELEVATION: adjoining terrace, see separate listing (33-37 Scotland Street).
Predominantly 4-pane timber sash and case windows. Grey slate roofs. Cast-iron rainwater goods. Rendered wallhead and ridge stacks; coped, with circular cans.
INTERIORS: not seen, 1997, but some evidence of working panelled shutters.
RAILINGS: ashlar copes surmounted by cast-iron railings with spear-headed balusters.
Part of the Second New Town A Group, Nos 39-43 Scotland Street were built to complete the scheme at the northern end of the east side of Scotland Street, after construction of the Scotland Street tunnel caused the abandonment of the proposed eastern segment of Royal Crescent.
