Description

Ebeneezer J. MacRae and A Rollo and J Tweedie, 1930-31. Standard Edinburgh police box Classical rectangular cast-iron box 6ft by 4ft on plan, 2 pilastered long elevations; one contains door bearing city arms. Single bay short elevations; triangular open pediments containing rib boned wreath decoration. Saltire patterned glazing to all elevations. Low pitched roof retaining original lamp.

Statement of Interest

This police box occupies a prominent corner site at the junction of two significant streets in Drumsheugh Gardens and Queensferry Street, in close proximity to the B-listed terraces of Drumsheugh Gardens and Randolph Cliff (see separate listings). It is still relatively complete with features such as the lamp still retained. The boxes were designed specifically to complement the classical architecture of Edinburgh.
