John C Hay, 1882. 4-storey, 3-bay tenement, part of Scottish 17th centruy style terrace. squared and snecked sandstone with polished ashlar dressings. Base course; continuous band of relieving arches above lintels at ground floor; dividing band course above; cornice above 2nd floor; long and short window surrounds; chamfered reveals; panelled doors; plate glass fanlights.
W (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: 4-bay at ground. 2 doorways flnaking bipartite window at ground floor; doorway to left with floreate capitalled nookshafts. Full-height canted window corbelled to square at Dutch gable with broken pediment cradling thistle finial; central light pedimented at ground floor; dividing bands; circular patera in gablehead. Bipartite windows in bay to outer left, 3rd floor window breaking eaves in pedimented dormerhead with inset patera. Single windows in remaining bay, 3rd floor window breaking eaves in crowstepped dormerhead. Central pedimented datestone "AD 1883" above 1st floor.
Plate glass sash and case windows. Grey slate roof; 3 corniced, linked polygonal wallhead stacks; corniced mutual gable stack; moulded octagonal cans; scrolled skewputts.
INTERIORS: not seen 1990.
Low saddleback wall to street.
Forms continuous irregular terrace with 77-99 and 105-129 (odd nos) Marchmont Road and 2-10 (inc) Beaufort Road. Designed for John Souden, builder, and built with modifications to the Dean of Guild plans.
