Description

William Hogg, 1886. 4-storey Barional detailed corner tenement with shops at ground floor. Squared and snecked sandstone with polished ashlar dressings. Cornice above shops; string course at 1st floor; corbel table above 2nd floor; stepped down to form segmental-arched hood; crowstepped gables chamfered reveals; pedimented dormerheads.

E MARCHMONT ROAD elevation: 4-bay including corner bay. Altered shopfronts floor with dividing panelled and capitalled piers. Canted window across angle; facetted pyramidal roof; lead finial. Bipartite windows in 1st bay. Single windows in remaining bays; semi-circular pediments to 3rd floor windows. Adjoining tenement (see separate listing) to outer left. N SPOTTISWOODE ROAD elevation: 3-bay excluding angle bay. Altered shopfronts at ground floor with dividing panelled and capitalled piers. 2-light canted window in 3rd bay facetted pyramidal roof; lead finial. Bipartite windows in 1st bay. Single windows in 2nd bay. Adjoining tenements (not listed) recessed to outer left. Plate glass sash and case windows. Grey slate roof; coped wallhead and gablehead stacks. INTERIORS: not seen 1991.
