Description

Thomas MacKenzie, 1847. Alterations A and W Reid 1893. Tooled
ashlar with polished ashlar dressings. 2-storey, 7-bay range
with centre round-arched pend. Bays divided by pilasters in
each floor, channelled to centre and outer bay. Cast-iron
(1893) arcaded shopfronts in ground floor to all but No 11
(modern facade). Round-headed pilastered tripartites with
bracketted cills (bipartite to centre bay) 1st floor;
pediments to centre and outer bays; cornice; slate roof.

'The plan of the market has been finished by our Townsman, Mr

McKenzie, architect, and is designed with his usual taste and

skill' ELGIN COURANT 5.3.1847.
