Trench (1885-1979) was Architect Surveyor to the Metropolitan Police. Each police call box was intended to be a 'miniature police station'. There are three other listed examples of this type remaining in situ in Glasgow, at the Great Western Road/Botanic Gardens (LB32515), Buchanan Street (LB32825) and Cathedral Square (LB51059). The Wilson Street box was set on a plinth by railings to the underground public conveniences at the time of listing but is now located on the pavement to the north side of the street. This box was painted red at the time of listing, the original colour used in Glasgow, but is now painted blue (2023).
