Description

James Sellars, 1870-73. Renaissance detailed industrial workshops. 2-storeys with 3-storey pavilions. Painted ashlar, channelled at ground floor.

ELEVATION TO BERKELEY STREET: 18 bays arranged 3-5-2-5-3. Ground floor partly altered. Segmentally arched pend at No 105, carved keystone, timber gates with cast-iron infill, smaller flanking entrances at Nos 103 and 105 with similar detailing. Console corniced entries at outer bays with pilastered relieving arches. Low entrance W bay with infilled segmental arch and keystone. 1st floor. 2 central bays with 2 arcaded, pilastered windows, pediment, with disc in typanum, central windows in outer bays corniced.

ELEVATION TO ELDERSLIE STREET: 19 bays arranged 3-13-3. Sash and case windows with mainly 6-pane glazing. Some blind windows. Basement level band course, ground floor cornice; moulded cill band to 1st floor. Windows architraved in 1st floor outer bays. Pierced, corniced, double wallhead stack over N bays.

KENT ROAD ELEVATION: repeats Elderslie Street detailing with projecting doorpiece at head of double return staircase in central bays, console corniced entrance with pilastered relieving arch.

SE return similar to Elderslie Street detailing, partially blocked and altered.

INTERIOR: hoop-girdered roof on cast-iron columns.

Statement of Interest

Kent Road block oldest part. Elderslie Street block added 1872-3.
