Description

James Sellars (Campbell Douglas and Sellars) 1870-73, built

in 2 parts. Former factory now flatted housing. 4 storeys,

and sunk basement. 19 unequal bays arranged 3-13-3 with 3

return bays to E and W treated with outer bays to Kent Road

as pavilions and repeating window arrangement. All windows

casement with geometric glazing bars, ground and 1st floor

cill band.

OUTER BAYS: raised; shallow recessed 3-bay section with

3-light pilastered mullioned window on 2nd floor flanked by

single lights in outer bays; windows plain on ground and 1st; architraved arched window with paterae spandrels and dwarf

pilastrade in frieze.

Windows in central section paired with pilaster mullions at

2nd floor, 2nd floor cornice. 3rd floor 13 lunettes. Plain

eaves entablature; parapets at ends; hipped slate roof.

Geometric cast-iron railings.

Statement of Interest

Excludes brick additions to rear. Built for Wylie and

Lochhead. Converted to domestic use 1985-6, rear demolished.
