Description

James Thomson, 1925. Modern classical with Greek detailing,
5-storey commercial building on corner, 5 x 3 unequal bays.
Polished ashlar, channelled at 1st floor and angle strips.
Ground floor altered. Tall corniced doorpiece to No 74
Waterloo Street with acroteria, metal door with paterae
border. Ground floor cornice with Vitruvian scroll. Low 1st
floor with unfinished sculpture blocks to Waterloo Street.
1st floor cornice forming stylobate for giant pilasters,
clasping at angles, rising from 2nd to 4th floor; stylised
sculpted capitals, plain 2-light sash and case windows with
glazing bars. Bold cornice with coupled mutules, sculpted
escutcheons.
Interior: marble-lined vestibule.
