Description

James Thomson of Baird and Thomson, circa 1878. 4 storeys and

attic over basement, 3 unequal bays. Renaissance detailed

commercial chambers. Ground floor slightly projecting and

unaltered; doors in outer bays reached by steps with curved

parapet walls, pilastered and arched keystoned doorpieces

with decorated spandrels below entablature; Corinthian

pilastered and columned centrepiece fronts 3 central windows, entablature above - 1st floor console pedimented windows to

outer bays, tripartite central window in shallow projection,

decorative apron panel; consoled cornice (masks to outer

consoles), central segmental pediment breaks into balcony of

2nd floor central tripartite. 2nd floor cill band with Greek

key frieze below, outer windows in lugged architraves with

scrolls at base and scrolled lintels, central tripartite

pilastered with supporting consoles and centre light

pedimented. 3rd floor simply detailed with bold panels

between outer and inner bays. Elaborate swagged, dentil and

modillion entablature. Swagged parapet interupted by

tripartite, pilastered, segmentally pedimented dormers.
