Description

R Henderson 1913. 3-storey 6-by 9-bay reinforced concrete. Segmental arched door with keystone, corbels and cornice. Large multi-paned steel-framed windows separated by tall pilasters. Raised corner parapets. Plain blank brick panel rear. Flat roof. Central lift tower contains original lift by R Waywood (London) to transfer car bodies from ground floor smithy to first floor joiner and second floor painting and varnishing shops. Structure pierced to carry line shafting.

Statement of Interest

Built for Wm Park motor car body builder by Truscon Ltd on the Kahn system, modelled on Henry Ford's Highland park Factory, Detroit, USA. One of only three examples in the UK. Up-graded C(S) to B 17 June 1986. Kilbirnie Street formerly Crawford Street.
