Description

Reid and Forbes, Architects, 1931. Modern movement school,
long symmetrical 2-storey, main block with rear classroom
extensions in similar style. Reinforced concrete, frame
building with central 7-bay entrance section, wide 4-bay
classroom ranges with taller terminal pylon entrance bays,
additional bays now projecting from side elevation. Main
entrance in splayed recess at centre pilaster strips and
elaborate diamond detailed doors, flanked by small windows
in banded wall surface balcony, with scalloped cill over
centre, pie-crust to outer sections at 1st floor breaking
forward at centre to form porch below; cornice band and
stepped parapet over 1st floor with central plinth for flag
staff. Long, horizontal windows to classrooms with
metal-framed rectangular glazing pattern; cill bands and
banded parapet. Entrance blocks with pilaster strips to
doorways, double leaf diamond detailed door, scrolled iron
work in fanlight and on balcony above. Similar scrolls in
stone on stepped moulded crowning plinth.
