Description

Circa 1800. Mansion house in castle style. 2 storeys with
3rd in central drum. Rendered with ashlar dressings.
Symmetrical battlemented south elevation. Central drum
with 2 smaller attached 3/4 round turrets, flanked by 1
wide recessed bay and square angle towers. Battered
plinth; cill course to both floors. Narrow single lights
in outer towers and small turrets, large tripartites in
recessed bays. Central door at head of 4 steps, elaborate
doorpiece in miniature castle form. 2 flanking sash
windows, 3 in 1st floor and 1 in second. All windows with
hoodmoulds. Piended slate roof. East return elevation
with 1 recessed bay with northern flanking angle tower.
Rear wing at east, 8 bays, 3 storeys, battlemented with
corbelled bartisan at north.
Interior: Main entrance leads to pilastered rotunda with
screen of pilasters and Roman Doric columns. Round-headed
niches between doors. Reception room to left with Ionic
engaged columns and pilasters flanking the windows.
Marble chimney piece.

Statement of Interest

Built for Sir William Honeyman, possibly incorporating

part of an earlier house.
