Description

David Dunbar (presumably of Langholm), sculptor. Statue,
unveiled March 1842. White marble figure of Admiral Sir
Pulteney Malcolm raised on corniced battered square grey
granite base; enclosed at plinth by plain cast-iron rails
supported at angles by cannon-shaped piers.

Statement of Interest

Known locally as "The Marble Man".

Listed for historic interest. Originally sited in Market

Place at main door of Town House; moved to present site 1886.

Inscribed "In Honour of Admiral/Sir/Pulteney Malcolm/GCB -

GCMB/Born Feb 21 1768/Died July 20 1838".
