Description

Late 18th century. 2-storey and attic, 3-bay, L-plan house. Stugged sandstone ashlar to front, lined render to sides and rear, chamfered margins. Mansard attic storey to rear wing.

E (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: lugged, architraved and keystoned entrance to centre, 9-panel door, rectangular fanlight, window centred above at 1st floor, windows at ground and 1st floor in bays flanking, bowed dormers above.

S ELEVATION: gable end; glazed door to right at ground, small window to right in gablehead. Wing to left; 3 windows to left, door to centre and window to right at ground, 2 windows at 1st floor, timber-mullioned tripartitie window in attic. Projection in re-entrant angle to centre; window at ground floor and small brick lean-to.

W ELEVATION: harled gable end to left; blinded window to left at 1st floor. Projection in re-entrant angle to centre, single bay to right with window at ground and 1st floors.

N ELEVATION: gable end to left; window to right at ground and 1st floors, window to left in gablehead. Rear wing to right; window to left at ground, 1st and attic storeys, blocked opening to centre in attic.

4-pane timber sash and case windows, 8-pane lights to mansard. Dark grey graded slate roof, coped skews. Rendered gablehead stacks to N, S, E and W.

INTERIOR: not seen 1998.

BOUNDARY WALLS AND GATE PIERS: rendered ashlar gate piers to front (E) with wrought-iron arch above. Rubble boundary walls to E and S, brick to W.

Statement of Interest

This is the Rectory for the Church of St Mary and St Peter (Panmure Place). The Mansard roof was added circa 1925. A carved inscription on the W wall to the rear carries the inscription, "IM 1639 M(Y?) GOD IS ALVYIS MY SUPORT". The provenance of this is not known.
