Description

Circa 1886. Terrace of 2-storey houses with attic. Stugged
ashlar with polished dressings including quoins to angle
of No 69. 2 types: 1) Nos 69-75: 2 symmetrically treated
pairs with paired doors sharing bracketted cornice.
Flanking bipartites with bracketted cornices. Cill band to
1st floor with outer bipartites and inner sashes, all
margined and linked by lintel band. Eaves cornice. Slate
roof with straight skew to No 69 and corniced ashlar end
and axial stacks. To rear, paired wallhead dormers sharing
gable and corbelled stack; single storey wings with piended
slate roofs. 2) Nos 77-83: Four 5-bay units with centre
door flanked by sashes and outer bipartites all with
bracketted cornices. Identical pattern of windows to 1st
floor with margins, cill and lintel band. Eaves cornice
with scrolled shoulders to wallhead stacks. Slate roof with
corniced axial stacks, and straight skew and end stack
to No 83. Rears treated as Nos 69-75. Iron gates and piers
to vennel leading to rear garden boundary wall and arrowhead
railings.

Statement of Interest

Built as houses for overseers. Details suggest by same

architect as No 72 Maxwellton Road, opposite, which is

dated 1886.
