Description

Late 17th or early 18th century. 4-storey, 5-bay end of terrace tenement on falling ground. Harled with render margins. Eaves band.

S (BROAD STREET) ELEVATION: 2 square openings to lower ground floor and low segmental carriage pend arch at outer right. Regular fenestration above with windows grouped 1-2-1.

W ELEVATION: gatepier (see below). Gabled. Corniced door and window at centre; windows above at 1st and 2nd floors. Small window at left in gablehead.

N ELEVATION: 4 bays, stairtower to centre right, entrance at ground to right of stairtower, small opening to left, carriage pend to outer left at ground. Window in W face of stairtower, to left, to outer left and to right. Regular fenestration at 2nd and 3rd floors.

Timber sash and case windows with horns with 12-pane glazing; iron grilles to square ground floor openings. Grey slates. Stack in E gable with 6 terracotta cans.

GATEPIERS: pair of tall ashlar piers framing entrance gate to W of property each with band, frieze, cornice and ball finial.

Statement of Interest

Absence of stack on W gable is uncomfortable. Good plain traditional tenement of early date.
