Mid 19th century with later alterations and additions. 2-storey, 4-bay rectangular-plan house, subdivided, with single storey gig house to S. Squared whinstone with droved and polished red sandstone dressings, to E; whinstone rubble with red sandstone dressings to S, N and W. Flush quoins and tails to openings.
E (ETTRICK TERRACE) ELEVATION: grouped 1-3 bays. Symmetrical 3-bay group with corniced and pilastered doorpiece, deep-set panelled door to centre, border-glazed rectangular fanlight; tripartite window at 1st floor above. Window to each floor of flanking bays. Later bay to left slightly set back with modern glazed door, rectangular fanlight and window at 1st floor above.
12-pane timber sash and case windows; modern glazing at ground of bay to left of 3-bay group and at 1st floor of single bay group. Slate piended roof. Ashlar and whinstone coped wallhead stack to S and N elevations; brick wallhead stack to N elevation.
INTERIOR: not seen, 1996.
BOUNDARY WALLS: whinstone rubble with red sandstone rounded coping, lowered (possibly formerly with railings) in front of 3-bay group to E. Cast iron wall - mounted letter box; made by W.T. Allen &Co., London. George V1 (1936-1952) cipher on door in boundary wall to north of house.
GIG HOUSE: slated piended single storey, single bay building with segmental-arched opening to E. Wallhead ashlar coped stack to N. Harled N elevation.
The house was built by 1858. There are 2 modern platformed garages between the house and the gig house, 1996.
