Description

Earlier 19th century. Symmetrical 2-storey, 3-bay plain classical house; bowed stair tower at rear; now subdivided. Painted harl; painted margins. Raised base course; lintel course. Narrow strip quoins; projecting cills; pilastered entrance to front. Painted brick single storey, 3-bay outbuilding at rear.

S (FRONT) ELEVATION: recessed entrance centred at ground; replacement timber panelled door; surrounding doorpiece comprising flanking pilasters, plain frieze, cornice, block pediment, keystone; blind single opening aligned above. Small single window at ground off-set to left of centre; single windows at both floors in bays to outer left and right.

N (REAR) ELEVATION: full height stair tower projecting at centre; single window at upper stage; single openings at ground in returns to left and right. Replacement timber panelled door at ground in bay to outer left; single window above. Small single window at 1st floor off set to right of centre; single windows at both floors in bay to outer right.

Replacement 2-pane timber glazing throughout. Graded grey slate roof; raised skews; cast-iron rainwater goods. Coped apex stacks to E and W; various circular cans.

INTERIOR: not seen 1997.

OUTBUILDING, E (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: single timber doors in bays at centre and outer left; blocked bay to outer right. Grey slate roof; sandstone coping to red brick apex stack to N. INTERIOR: not seen 1997.

Statement of Interest

A plain classical house which, despite replacement glazing and internal subdivision, has retained its pilastered doorpiece, recessed entrance and bowed stair tower.
