Description

1819. 4-storey with extensive basement, 6-bay and 7-bay, terraced classical corner tenement. Sandstone ashlar, at principal elevation rusticated at ground. Base course, band course between ground and 1st floors, cill band to smaller windows at 1st floor breaking remaining bays, cill band at 3rd floor (Broughton Place) with projecting cills to 3rd floor at East Broughton Place, corniced eaves and blocking course, ashlar steps and entrance platts oversailing basement. N (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: 2 timber panelled doors with fanlights (blocked fanlight to left) to centre, windows in bays remaining, regular fenestration above with cills of 2 outer bay windows each side taken lower. E (EAST BROUGHTON PLACE) ELEVATION: at basement level pilastered and pedimented doorpiece with timber panelled door to left of centre with small window above at ground floor, timber panelled door to left, small windows flanking entrance, 3 small blocked windows to right. Windows at ground floor with 2 windows in bays to left blinded for symmetry at ground floor, blinded in 3 bays above, regular fenestration above with lowered cills to windows in 2 bays to left at 1st floor. Timber sash and case windows with 12-pane glazing, 15-pane glazing to 1st floor; ridge and tall wallhead stacks with terracotta cans, decorative cast-iron railings. INTERIOR: not seen, 1998. A painted ceiling in the sitting room of No 29 was restored in 2011.
