Earlier to mid 19th century with later alterations (see Notes). Symmetrical, 2-storey, 4-bay semi-detached cottages forming 8-bay range stepped up hill. Each has two windowed, gabled porch projecting at ground with doorway to right return. First floor windows with gables breaking eaves. Tooled cream sandstone rubble with droved sandstone quoins and surrounds to openings. Projecting cills. Timber bargeboards.
Predominantly 12-pane glazing in timber sash and case windows. Grey slate roof. Regularly spaced, shouldered and corniced, brick-built stacks with circular clay cans. Cast-iron rainwater goods.
INTERIOR: not seen 1998.
2 and 3 Edington Mill Cottages are good examples of 19th century mill workers housing, built for employees at the nearby Edington Mill (see separate listing). Originally four cottages, conversion to two properties in 2002 resulted in the rubble infill of entrances to the left return of the gabled porches. Externally, the cottages largely retain their original form, profile and character. Adjacent to the west is the detached and more decorative Edington Mill House Cottage (see separate listing) which was presumably built to house a senior mill worker. Together the cottages provide good group interest.
