Description

Mid to later 19th century, extended to rear. Single storey, 2-bay gabled lodge. Stugged ashlar and squared rubble. Pointed- and shoulder-arched windows; corbels; chamfered arrises and stone mullions.

W (PRINCIPAL) ELEVATION: advanced gable to left of centre with full-width canted window, centre light surmounted by quatrefoil moulding in pointed-arch frame and flanking lights surmounted by concave moulding corbelled to square above. Bay to right with pointed arch window giving way to dormer gablet.

N (ENTRANCE) ELEVATION: gabled porch with window and quatrefoil detail as above projecting at centre, door on return to right and windows in flanking bays (that to left enlarged). Low flat-roofed extension to outer left.

S ELEVATION: plain gabled elevation.

PVC glazing throughout. Grey slates, banded at ridge. Single tall brick ridge stack with cans. Deeply overhanging eaves with decorative bargeboarding; cast-iron downpipes with decorative rainwater hoppers.

BOUNDARY WALLS, GATEPIER AND RAILINGS: low saddleback-coped ashlar boundary walls with inset decorative ironwork railings and coped rubble walls. Pyramidally-coped square-section ashlar gatepier.

Statement of Interest

Hope Park House (listed separately) and Lodge are thought to have been built for a local mill owner.
