History

C17 farmhouse, altered, and with earlier work incorporated. Shown on a Mostyn estate map of 1742 where it is labelled 'Kellin, Mr Jones'.

Exterior

Long 3-window front range of 2 storeys and attics constructed of rendered stone under slate roofs. Two rear wings, with further range adjoining that to N. The main range has a central front entrance under a segmental hood supported on brackets. Studded door in flat-headed doorcase with pulvinated frieze and keystone, with overlight above. Tripartite multi-pane sashes flanking entrance, that to R immediately adjacent. To the far R is a covered walkway to a late C20 garage. Near-flush 8-over-8-pane hornless sash windows to 1st floor. No openings to S gable end. The N gable end of the main range has a 2-light multi-pane casement window, probably not original, within a heavy raised full-height surround. Small blocked opening in stone surround to attic storey. Lateral brick stack to rear, towards N.

The S side of the SW wing has a 1st floor glazed door to the R under a flat-roofed open porch, reached by a modern walkway from the hillside. Small-pane sash to L and 2 to lower storey. Projecting stack with brick shaft to W gable end, to the L of which is a multi-pane C20 window.

Short wide NW wing, said to be brick to upper storey. Inset flat-headed doorway to N side with glazed door, and C20 2-light window above. The W gable end of the NW wing has a late C20 casement window to each storey, offset to the R. Adjoining the L side of the gable end is a lower wing of one-storey-and-an-attic with brick end stack, either a secondary house or service range. To the S is a half-glazed door with sash to L and small late C20 window immediately to the R. Gabled attic dormer with 2-light casement window. Large multi-pane top-hung window to N side.

Interior

No access to interior at time of inspection, but said to contain a Jacobean staircase with close string, turned balusters, moulded handrail and square newels; panelled doors with ornamental hinges; panelled window shutters and seats to 1st floor; and 3 stone mantels with carved keystones.

Reasons for Listing

Listed as a large C17 farmhouse with good exterior detail as a result of Georgian remodelling.
