History

Erected in 1868 to celebrate the completion of a new Water Works and therefore the improved supply of water to the town. The fountain was originally set up in Castle Square, where it had an outer basin. On this basin was an inscription: 'This fountain was opened April 25th 1868 by HRH Albert Edward Prince of Wales on the occasion of the completion of the Carnarvon Waterworks'.

Exterior

A freestone fountain comprising a basin with an octagonal concrete base and stem, the latter with blind Gothic panels, beneath a wide shallow basin with fluted head.
