History

Late C18 or early C19 house and shop with mid C19 stucco facade. This was the home of Thomas Charles, one of the founders of the British and Foreign Bible Society in 1804. Charles (1755-1814) was also an education pioneer and an early champion of the Welsh Sunday Schools. He has two statues in the town. Since 1920 the building has been a bank.

Exterior

Three-storey house and commercial premises of rubble with later stucco facade; slate roof and large flanking rubble chimneys. Three-bay elevation with modern bank openings to ground floor. The first and second floor windows have Victorian 6-pane sashes with projecting stucco keyblocks and lintels. The 2nd storey windows additionally have moulded stucco architraves; moulded stringcourse between the floors, and a moulded cornice and parapet to the roofline.

Interior

The interior was not inspected at the time of survey.
