History

A well on the site is shown on the first edition ordnance survey map of 1876, but the fountain structure is probably later C19 of early C20 - a map of 1909 clearly marks a fountain.

Exterior

A shallow segmental arch with rusticated voussoirs and keystone contains a scalloped basin, and a spout set into a beaten metal, diagonally set plate which depicts frogs in a lily pond in low relief.

Reasons for Listing

An attractive example of street furniture, of special interest for the quality of the
sculptured panel.
