History

The first lighthouse was established on the Skerries islands c1716, and rebuilt c1759. The former Keeper's house probably dates from the first period of occupation of the island, c1720. It was superseded by the construction of new accommodation integrated with a new lighthouse in 1851, and appears to have been re-roofed at some time, possibly in the late C19.

Reasons for Listing

Listed as the earliest surviving keeper's house in Wales, and possibly the first such purpose-built dwelling anywhere.
