History

Farmyard range, apparently cow-house and stables with loft, basically early C19, contemporary with the house, but altered in late C19, perhaps when the fine hipped water-powered mill was added to the left. There are altered openings indicating a general refurbishment.

Exterior

Farmyard buildings, rubble stone with grouted slate roofs. Range runs W to E and has single-storey cow-byre to left and lofted stable to right. The cow-byre front wall has been rebuilt c1900 to the left, with a broken joint. Older stonework to the rest of the front wall and left gable end. Five doors and some vent loops, the doors originally with brick heads, the 2nd and 3rd rebuilt with brick surrounds. Left end has outside steps to loft door with timber lintel.
The stable range has a slate-hung upper floor and two ground floor doors with overlight, each flanked by window each side. Steep stone steps up to loft door in E end wall. Roof is partly collapsed (2001). Upper floor with 3 loft windows, 2 over left stable, one larger over door of right stable. Ground floor has 2 stable doors each between 2 windows. Left stable has brick heads to openings, right stable has heads concealed by lower line of slate hanging. Outside steps at right end to loft door with brick head. Rear has 4 loft windows.

Interior

Stables have later C19 joisted floors. Cow shed has collar trusses, no loft though loft door at W end.
