History

Portmeirion was designed and laid out by the celebrated architect Sir Clough Williams-Ellis (1883-1978) following his purchase of the estate, then called Aber IĆ¢, in 1926. The village evolved over several decades and was still being added to in the 1970s.

C19 dovecote associated with the original Aber Ia (now the hotel building; `Cloughed-up' by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis).

Exterior

Rubble dovecote in the form of a cylindrical tower. The upper section has four tiers of nesting boxes with square holes and continuous projecting slate ledges. The structure is surmounted by a rendered balustrade with slatestone capping.

Reasons for Listing
