History

A probably C17 timber framed house, altered in the C19. The form with the central upper window suggests a once gabled front, but an earlier type of parallel with the street jettied front is also a possibility. Church Street had some widening as part of the improvements associated with Priory Street and White Swan Court in c1837, but the north side appears to retain the historic street line. It is known that No. 8 does retain C17 fabric revealed during works in 1981.

Exterior

Rendered and painted front on a timber framed building, Welsh slate roof. Narrow three storey front possibly once jettied. Shopfront under builds the possible jetty. This has a 2-pane window with flanking house and shop doors with overlights, panelled pilasters, low stall-riser, projecting fascia. The first floor has three probably early C20 2-light casements with six small lights over. The upper floor has a central 3-light window of similar type. Rear elevation not seen.

Interior

Interior not available at resurvey apart from the shop premises. Said to have revealed timber framed features.
