C18 house. Shop building C19 to corner, lower part in Church Street
probably earlier. Tall timber frame plastered house with steep tiled
roof. Front lined as ashlar. S flank wall uncovered by demolition in
1981 showed panelled chevron pargetting covered over in C19. 2 storeys
above brick base. Symmetrical 5 window front. Flush box sashes with
glazing bars. Modillioned eaves cornice. Central 6 panel door.
Pilasters support full entablature with Gothic fret in frieze and
triangular pediment. Shop building adjacent has 2 storey plastered
facade with steep hipped slate roof, overhanging bracketed eaves and deep
plain frieze up to canted corner. 3 window 2 storey part in Church Street
has similar bracketed eaves to slate roof but lacks frieze. Flush box
sash windows with moulded architraves but late C19, 2/2 paned sashes.
Continuous C19 shop front with paired pilasters, deep fascia, and paired
brackets supporting continuous overhanging cornice. Interesting buildings
prominent in street views.
