Description

ST4717 STOKE SUB HAMDON CP NORTH STREET (West side)
6/323 Barn about 25 metres north-west
of The Priory
19.4.61
GV II
Barn. Probably C15 origins. Ham stone cut and squared, near-ashlar in places; thatch over stone slate base courses
between stepped coped gables with C20 obelisk finials. T-plan, with projecting porch just south of centre on east side,
with tall boarded doors under timber lintol; to north one ventilation slit, a buttress and a boarded doorway, plain
southwards: on west side pair of doors opposite porch, with 2 slit ventilators on either side and 5 buttresses,
apparently not original: on south gable three ventilation slits, several holes for doves and a blocked quatrefoil gable
vent. Interior not accessible. Important in its context with The Priory (q.v).
