There are two blue plaques on the building. One commemorates Thomas Parker who was born here in 1667 and became the 1st Earl of Macclesfield and the second blue plaque commemorates Bonnie Prince Charlie who stayed here on the 7th December 1745 during his journey north after deciding to retreat after getting as far south as the Swarkestone Causeway near Derby.
