The small window in south wall gave light to the vicar's desk when there was a rood screen separating the nave and chancel and therefore limiting the available light. Note the squint (seen as a black rectangle) at the base of the window, a hole which ran to the chantry chapel and allowed the chantry chaplain to watch the movements of the vicar at the high altar.
