Small harbourside house now holiday cottages, mostly C19 but corbelling under eaves on Castle Square elevation suggests a much older building. However the 1817 engraving after a drawing by C Norris does not show a building on this site. Marked on 1849 map. Old photographs show that the S end wing is added or rebuilt in the mid C20.
House, divided into holiday flats. Painted stucco with slate close-eaved roofs. Two storeys, two sections, the upper one apparently rebuilt in mid C20. Taller downhill part has stuccoed end stacks, the left stack forward of ridge. Broad C20 4-pane sash each floor to left (both widened as compared with old photographs), tiny window under eaves to centre and 4-pane sash to first floor right. C20 door to ground floor extreme left and small 4-pane window right of centre.
Uphill section is smaller, with roof of much lower pitch, wedge shaped in plan. Former doorway to left now 4-pane sash and inserted low late C20 window to right both floors. Narrow end gable has rounded angles, the curves stopped just below eaves height. Rear to Castle Square is windowless, stepped forward of rear of main part and with steps up to door (to Herring Gull Cottage) in right return.
Rear of main part has thickly rendered irregular corbelling under eaves, rounded angle to left with corbel and 4-pane sash to right.
Included as part of picturesque cottage row overlooking the harbour and enclosing Castle Square.
