St Andrew: inscription from the brass to Edward Weston of Lyddington, d.1530

Here lies the honourable man Edward Watson, Esquire, a cultivator of justice and by profession a lawyer. The Bishop of Lincoln formerly had him as secretary and he chose him for the conduct of his lawsuits. He was ready to afford help to the poor, to settle long outstanding disputes and to assist all with his advice. Why should I refer to the endowments of his mind? Why to the privileges of his position? Why to his noble efforts in love for his country? Wife, refrain from disturbing your husband; thrice quintupled offspring stop disturbing your parent with tears. His abilities, his high character, his virtue, reputation and honour now bear him company on his journey to regions above.
