Probably maltster's house, now house. Early C19. Red brick on coursed
rubblestone plinth; hipped slate roof. 2 storeys. Deep bracketed eaves;
brick ridge stacks off-centre to north and south. East front: at right
angles to road; 4 windows; 16-pane glazing bar sashes with gauged brick
heads; ground-floor windows have architraves with bracketed cills, and
bracketed blind boxes with ceramic-tile decoration and cast iron window
boxes to first-floor windows above; pair of French casements between first
and second windows from left have architrave, bracketed blind box with
ceramic-tile decoration and cast iron cresting; 6-panelled door off-centre
to right (lower 2 panels flush and top panels raised and fielded) with
radial fanlight, panelled reveals and soffit, and doorcase consisting of
convex reeded pilasters with paterae above, and bracketed open triangular
pediment. Left-hand return front with first-floor painted imitation
glazing bar sash and basement with segmental-headed boarded window to right
and boarded door to left. Slightly later (see straight joint at rear)
2-storey lower addition to south: hipped roof with deep bracketed eaves
and integral brick lateral stack at rear; one bay to front; glazing bar
sashes with gauged brick heads, that on ground floor with boarded shutters;
segmental headed boarded basement door to right with window to left.
Rear: 4 first-floor windows and 2 ground-floor windows, that to right with
raised and fielded panelled shutters (some evidence of refenestration,
see straight joints); central 6-panelled door with parallel reveals,
radial fanlight, and doorcase with panelled pilasters, and tall brackets
supporting cornice. Interior not inspected. Acacia House and the former
malt-house (qv) to the west form a complete example of a small rural
maltings.
